AF Consistency
How reliably does your camera hit focus?
A perfectly calibrated lens still won’t give sharp pictures if the autofocus lands in a different place every shot. AF Consistency measures how repeatable your autofocus is: one of the most important things a camera does.
What you get
- A consistency score for the camera and lens, shot after shot.
- Comparison with other photographers' results for the same kit (FoCal Comparison Data, in FoCal Pro and Commercial while support is active, where there's data for your kit).
- A history, so you can see whether consistency is changing.

How it runs
1Set up
Calibrate the lens first with Fully Auto (or check it with CalCheck), or a calibration error can make the score look worse than it is. Then set up the FoCal target, connect your camera and open AF Consistency from the Camera page.

2Run the test
Hit Start: FoCal defocuses the lens and refocuses many times, measuring each shot.

3Your answer
See how consistently the camera focused, and how it compares.
Your results
The results show the quality of each shot; tightly grouped results mean consistent autofocus.

Over time
In FoCal Pro and Commercial, History → Analysis shows AF Consistency (mean CoF) over time, so you can see whether your kit is staying reliable.
How often: As part of your Kit Health Check: every few months, or monthly for the best trends. Over time it shows whether a camera and lens are focusing less consistently, often the first sign of wear in the focus drive.
