What’s New in FoCal 2021 MR3

Welcome to FoCal 2021 MR3 – the third Maintenance Release of FoCal 2021. This release includes minor bug fixes and improvements.

Version Details

Headline Features

• Fix to operation of meta.json for Mac – if problems are encountered, ensure that the macOS permissions allow access to the directory containing the meta.json file. For further information on user metadata adjustment, see here.

Features in FoCal 2021 MR2:

• Fixed an issue which could cause a camera to not connect, raising an error referring to “Type Initializer”. This typically happened when you tried to re-connect a camera which has settings that were unrestored.
• Fixed an issue where some cameras would fail to connect if you had a lens-cap on or the camera was unable to focus on anything.
• Fixed an issue where a camera may fail to be recognised by FoCal on a new macOS install, or when it was connected to the computer for the first time.
• Improved explanation for some error messages
• Fix to an issue which stopped Target Setup starting after changing a camera.

Windows Prerequisites / Installer Problems

Note that for all of the FoCal 2020 pre-releases we have had no reported issues with the Windows installer not correctly updating dependencies, so we will remove this section in the next release notes if no reports are raised.

The Windows Installer should automatically install any necessary missing prerequisites on the first installation, but if you have problems with the installer you should manually install the following:

.NET Framework 4.8: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/thank-you/net48-web-installer

FoCal is now a 64-bit application on Windows, so you would need the 64-bit Visual C++ redistributable files:

If you download and run the installers for both of the above, and then re-run the FoCal installer it should fix any issues.
